Terresta-Foam is our proprietary laminated foam, engineered specifically for fly tying. We've spent years testing foam types, thicknesses, color combinations, and lamination techniques to produce a material that performs better than anything available off the shelf. Every sheet is laminated and inspected in our Colorado shop.

DUAL-FOAM is a two-layer 2mm/2mm laminate (4mm total): the all-purpose workhorse for hoppers, Chernobyls, foam ants, and gurglers. TRI-FOAM adds a third 1mm layer (2mm/2mm/1mm, 5mm total) for three-color contrast and a thicker, more buoyant body, ideal for large terrestrials, cicadas, and patterns where color separation really matters.
-
Thinner foam (1mm-2mm) works well for small terrestrials, ant patterns, and finesse flies. 2mm/2mm DUAL-FOAM is the sweet spot for most hopper and Chernobyl patterns. TRI-FOAM (5mm total) is best for large terrestrials, gurglers, poppers, and saltwater patterns where you need maximum floatation and a bold profile.
-
Our foam shines on hoppers, Chubby Chernobyls, Fat Alberts, foam ants, beetles, cicadas, club sandwiches, mouse patterns, gurglers, sliders, warmwater poppers, and saltwater crab and crustacean imitations. Basically, any pattern where you want a foam body that floats high and looks alive on the water.
-
Quality closed-cell foam doesn't absorb water the way open-cell or craft foam does. Our laminated sheets are built from closed-cell stock, so they stay floating fly after fly, drift after drift. Felt-and-foam laminates will pick up a little moisture on the felt side, which is part of what gives those patterns their lifelike look, but the foam side keeps the fly riding high.
-
A sharp razor blade, sturdy fly tying scissors, or a foam body cutter will all work. Most tiers cut tapered strips or pre-shaped bodies on a cutting mat, then thread-wrap them to the hook shank. For consistent shapes across a batch of flies, check out our PRE CUT BODIES: they save hours of cutting time.

Every sheet of Terresta-Foam is laminated, inspected, and packaged in our shop in Colorado. We're a U.S.-based small business run by fly tiers and anglers, not a reseller of overseas foam. We are a small western Colorado based company created by an angler and fly tier.
-
For freshwater hoppers and terrestrials, a standard dry fly or stimulator hook in sizes 6-14 works well. For larger foam bugs and bass patterns, go up to a heavy-wire hopper hook in 2-6. For our Billfish Flies and Poppers, we use heavy-duty saltwater hooks built to handle big fish: every fly comes ready to fish.

Absolutely. Custom Billfish Flies and Billfish Poppers are a big part of what we do. Send us your color preferences, target species, and any specific patterns you want: we'll tie a custom order built for your trip. Captains, mates, and operations regularly source flies from us for their boats.
